National Geographic Magazine: Congo Lowland Gorillas

Kingo, the silverback of the group, chest beats to call in females who have foraged too far.

At least once a week the group visits the swamp area for food.

Beatrice enjoys a favored fruit, with her newborn Gentile held tight.

The hot part of the day was always siesta time for the adults and playtime for the children.

Once the children reached about two years old, Kingo took up more of an active guardian role, like gorilla day care, as the mothers forage.

The young gorillas would play constantly, even George and Kingo would join in at times.

Lowland gorillas are critically endangered and if you want to help the local zoo is usually a great start.
